日本人はいったいいつまで「英語」でスピーチだとすごい信仰を持ち続けるのでしょうか。海外で生活していて、海外のメディアの前で話すのであれば英語であるのは当たり前で、英語が話せる＝偉いが何十年たっても変わらずにあり続けるということは、日本人の英語力は上がっていないと言っているに他なりません。
「〇〇が流ちょうな英語でスピーチ」と聞いてみたら、別に発音はネイティブ並みでもなかったりしますし、要は流暢だろうか片言だろうか英語で話せれば一目置いている現状について、日本はおかしいと思いましょう。
本日、長男が英検3級を受験しに行きましたが、テキスト見せてもらったらまだ自分でもかなり解けたので、TOEICをまた受けてみようかと思ってしまいました。でもTOEICのスコアを証明する機会がないのですよね。会社経営なんてしていると。

How much longer will Japanese people continue to idolize speeches given in English? If someone lives overseas and speaks to foreign media, it’s only natural to use English. The idea that being able to speak English makes someone “great” has persisted for decades, and its continued existence simply highlights that the overall English proficiency in Japan hasn’t improved.
When you hear phrases like “So-and-so gave a fluent English speech,” often the pronunciation isn’t even on par with a native speaker. The point is, whether it’s fluent or broken, the mere act of speaking English seems to earn respect in Japan. We should recognize how strange this mindset is.
Today, my eldest son went to take the Eiken Grade 3 exam. I looked through his textbook and realized I could still solve most of the problems. It made me think about trying the TOEIC test again myself. However, in my current position running a business, there’s hardly any opportunity to showcase a TOEIC score.
