近年、ビジネスのスタイルが変化し接待の形も多様化しています。その中で、ゴルフ接待の意義については賛否が分かれるものの、依然として一定の価値を持つ場面もあります。ただ、はっきり言って、私はゴルフは10代から20代で終了し、30代以降はやってもいません。
ゴルフはプレー時間が長く、リラックスした環境で会話ができるため、通常の商談や会議では築きにくい関係性を深めるのに適しているとされています。ゴルフを好む相手にとっては、共通の趣味を通じて自然な形で親睦を深められる点が大きなメリットです。また、チームプレーやマナーが重視されるスポーツであることから、相手の人柄や価値観を知る機会にもなります。
しかし一方で、現代のビジネス環境下では接待のあり方も変わりつつあります。働き方改革やコンプライアンスの強化により、会社の方針として接待を控えるケースも増えていますし、ゴルフに対する興味を持たない世代が増えており、必ずしも全てのビジネスパーソンにとって有効な手段とは限りません。そのため、ゴルフ接待を行う際には、相手の趣向や業界の慣習を考慮することが重要です。
ゴルフは100も切ったことないですし、小さい球を打つのがストレスでしかありませんでした。それでもゴルフに誘われて。アメリカでもハワイでもゴルフしたことありますし、わざわざ京都まで遠征したこともあります。でも人間向き不向きがありますよね。昔の友人は「ゴルフで仕事が取れる」と言っていましたが、ゴルフで本当に仕事取れるならやりますけど、麻雀のほうが断然いいです。

That being said, to be honest, I stopped playing golf in my twenties and haven’t played at all since my thirties.
Golf is considered suitable for building relationships that are difficult to establish through regular meetings or business discussions, as it allows for long hours of conversation in a relaxed environment. For those who enjoy the sport, it serves as a natural way to strengthen personal connections through a shared interest. Additionally, since golf emphasizes teamwork and etiquette, it provides insight into a person’s character and values.
On the other hand, the way business entertainment is conducted has been shifting. Due to work-life balance reforms and stricter compliance policies, many companies are reducing or eliminating corporate hospitality, including golf. Furthermore, younger generations are showing less interest in golf, making it less universally effective as a networking tool. This means that before organizing a golf outing, it is crucial to consider the preferences of the participants and the customs of the industry.
Personally, I have never even broken 100 in golf, and hitting a tiny ball has always felt more frustrating than enjoyable. Despite this, I have accepted invitations to play and have even played in the U.S., Hawaii, and made trips all the way to Kyoto just for golf. However, some people are simply not suited for certain activities. A friend of mine once said, “You can land deals through golf,” and while I would certainly play if that were true, I find mahjong to be a far better option.
