青山剛昌 名探偵コナン連載30周年、こだわりは「コナンを泣かせない」芸術選奨・文部科学大臣賞
漫画家の青山剛昌さんが11日、『令和6年度（第75回）芸術選奨 贈呈式』に出席。作品を描くときのこだわりを明かしました。
名探偵コナンは漫画でも100巻を超え、テレビでも1000回を超えるほどの長寿アニメ。それがゆえに、最初から見ているとある部分からの劣化が激しくかんじます。中身がない、無理やり作ったトリック、設定のおかしさ、いつまで続くのか自分の命が尽き果てる前に終わるのかの不安などがあってしばらく楽しめずに映画だけ見ていました。そうすると本編を見ていないので、映画にいきなり現れたキャラについていけなかったので、最近アニメをネットで最初から見ていったところ25シーズンに到達。すでに1000話近く見たものの、あと5シーズンあるためあと200話ぐらいあるわけです。
完結しないで作者がなくなったアニメは多々ありますが、コナンがそうならないためにも、やはり自分から退場できるうちに退場しないとファンは悲しみます。コナンだけではありませんが、やはり立つ鳥跡を濁さずの精神で、どこかで幕引きはしっかりしていかないと。

Detective Conan has surpassed 100 volumes in manga and over 1,000 episodes in the anime, making it a long-running series. However, for those who have been following it from the beginning, there is a noticeable decline in quality at certain points. The story sometimes feels hollow, the tricks seem forced, and inconsistencies in the setting have become more apparent. Additionally, there’s the uncertainty of how much longer the series will continue—whether it will conclude before one’s own time runs out. Because of these concerns, I had stopped watching the main series for a while and only watched the movies. However, since I hadn’t kept up with the main story, I found it difficult to follow when new characters suddenly appeared in the films.
Recently, I decided to rewatch the anime from the very beginning and have now reached Season 25, meaning I’ve already watched nearly 1,000 episodes. Yet, with five more seasons left, I still have about 200 episodes to go.
There have been many anime series where the author passed away before the story could be completed. To prevent Detective Conan from meeting the same fate, it is crucial for the creator to step away while they still have the chance. This doesn’t apply to Conan alone—there is wisdom in the saying, “Leave without leaving a mess behind.” At some point, a proper conclusion must be made.
