Mリーグ機構は、「朝日新聞Mリーグ2024-25」ファイナルシリーズ、5月12日の第1試合に出場する4選手を発表した。長いシーズンもいよいよ残すは4日間・8試合のみ。トップから4位まで334.9ポイント差。劇的なドラマは待っているのか。
8か月近く見てきた麻雀最高峰のMリーグの今期の対局も今週で終了。優勝チームが決まります。Mリーグ参加選手は結構本を出しているので、本屋でパラパラめくるのですが、どうしても買う勇気がない。
昔から思うのですが、失礼ながら麻雀プロの書く本が面白いと思ったことがありません。それは基本的に役の紹介だったり、対局の説明であることが多いためです。対局の説明を見て何を学ぶか？なのですが、基本的に終わった対局の振り返りにすぎず、再現性がないので勉強できないのです。
ビジネスの振り返りは再現性があるのでいいのですが、麻雀はメンバーも同じことはないですし、席も異なるでしょうから本当に再現性が低いのです。人によっては「運ゲー」と言われることもある麻雀なので、それを解説されても「それはその時の状況を後づけで説明しているだけでは？」と思ってしまうのです。
ビジネス本の自叙伝も似たようなもので、ビジネス立ち上げの再現性がないので「ふーん」で終わってしまうことがよくあります。そのビジネスを模倣しても先駆者がいる以上二番煎じにすぎませんしね。だからビジネスにおける自叙伝は小説として読むことにしています。ただ、麻雀の本は小説にはなり得ないので、その麻雀プロが好きか嫌いかで買うしかないわけです。

The M.League organization has announced the four players who will compete in the first match on May 12 of the “Asahi Shimbun M.League 2024-25″ Final Series. After a long season, only four days and eight matches remain. The gap between first and fourth place is 334.9 points. Will there be a dramatic twist?
After nearly eight months of watching the highest level of mahjong in the M.League, this week marks the end of the season. The champion team will finally be determined. Many of the M.League players have published books, and while I often flip through them at bookstores, I can never bring myself to actually buy one.
To be honest, I’ve never really found books written by professional mahjong players to be interesting. They usually just introduce the basic hands or explain past matches. But what can you actually learn from a post-game breakdown? Essentially, it’s just a review of something that’s already happened, and there’s no real reproducibility, so you can’t effectively learn from it.
In business, reviewing the past is valuable because patterns can be replicated. But in mahjong, not only are the players different each time, but even the seating positions vary. That makes it inherently low in reproducibility. Some people even call mahjong a “game of luck,” and when I read a match analysis, I can’t help but think, “Aren’t you just explaining what happened in hindsight?”
Autobiographical business books often suffer from the same issue—they lack reproducibility. I often find myself thinking “huh, interesting” and moving on. Even if you try to replicate that business, you’ll only ever be a follower since someone else already did it first. That’s why I read business autobiographies more like novels.
But mahjong books can’t really be treated as novels. So, whether I buy one or not comes down to whether I like the player personally.
